One of the most well known and common Australian dog names has got to be “Blue.” Most people don’t know that the word “blue” has a number of different meanings in Australian lexicon. It has lots of both slang and idiomatic meanings. As a name it can be used both for people and dogs though when used as a name for humans it really doesn’t have any deeper meaning than being a handle used in lieu of the person’s real name, sort of like the expression “mate.” There is also a dog breed in Australia called Blue Kelpie.
