The Alaskan Malamute dog is the most sturdy and majestic of the sleigh dogs. Nowadays, its breed is extremely wide spread.

Fur, color: short hair with bushy under hair. Color black with tones of gray. Normally wears a mask and it lower hair is usually white.
Appropriate for: those who like to go out a lot, and of course, for those of you who like to go out in the snow (if you have a sleigh, much better).
Not Appropriate for: sedentary people and those who are looking for a meek and obedient dog.
As a member of the family: you must be inflexible in its training. They prefer the out doors and require a lot of time and attention from their owners. It’ll be happy with any kind of sport, even more so, if it’s pulling a sleigh or even a bicycle. If you fail to give it the entertaining and attention it needs, it might begin to howl.
Breed’s character: very clean, calm and affectionate. It has a natural tendency to be dominating or commanding with other dogs; or to run away. What’s common with this dog, is its resistance and not its velocity.
Common sicknesses: it’s a very robust breed that can tend to get too fat.
Life expectancy: up to 10 years of age.
