What basic training should I give a dog?

Basic Obedience Training for Dogs

Success in dog training depends in a long series of repetitions, and praising him properly after an order has been fully completed. We can start calling the puppy by his name for meals, and at some other time during the day. A young dog quickly associates the sound of his name with meals or affection, and answers accordingly. Never upset him with meals if he fails with some order. Sitting is a natural position, and the puppy after answering to your call, will sit down waiting for his food bowl. The most important basic training during the early periods of his life is directly related with hygiene. He tends to make his necessities alone, at specific zones he recognizes by the odor. However this can cause some problems, because if the puppy used the carpet once for this purposes, due to the odor, he may try to do it again, That's why a zone that has been used before, should be clean completely, expelling the odor out of it.

For this purpose, animal shops have many useful articles. White vinegar as well as dilute lye can help you very much. This kind of accident can be prevented closely watching the puppy, following the traces left by him after a meal, or when he wakes up and starts sniffing the floor looking for a proper place. Always take your puppy to the garden or outside the house in a box, whenever he needs to. Do not choose a muddy or grass zone, cause urine may damage it. If he urinates in the house, do not punish him, unless you find him in that precise moment, otherwise he won't understand the reason for it. It would also be useless if you scrub his nose on the place. If you see your dog doing that on your carpet, talk to him angrily, and kick him, not too heavily, on his back. Never kick a dog on his head, it may cause injuries, and will stimulate him to bite. When training a dog you have to be firm and constant, he will soon understand what he can do or not. For instance, do not allow him to jump or sleep on the chairs, or to climb the furniture once he is grown. Try to be dominant, instead of blaming him for not obeying an order. Usually, they try hard to satisfy their owners, and this should always be kept in mind by trainers. If a puppy starts jumping over you, put him down on the floor and say "no" firmly. After a short period he will understand it is not correct and he will not do it again.
