Training a Dog

Training a dog consists of teaching your dog to learn to obey simple orders. A dog that is well trained is a pleasure to live with and happier too. Training your dog will be much easier if your dog is confident, happy, and wants to please you. Training your dog from the beginning: The first thing you should teach your dog is to come at command, and to keep up with you while on the leash. If you are not able to train your dog these two things, most likely taking him out on walks will not be enjoyable and could even be dangerous. You must keep in mind that there are people who are not dog lovers and who are afraid of them. Your dog needs to learn to wear his collar before you train him with the leash. You can then train him to walk at your pace in your back yard, garden or house, and make sure to you take some treats along so that whenever the dog obeys, you treat him. The next step is to hook the leash onto the collar and have the dog follow you. Do not pull at the leash at any moment. Take your dog on a small walk, and use a treat as bait, then give it to him as soon as he follows at your pace. If your dog becomes distracted at any moment tell him "let's go!" or "come on boy!" If nothing else works, make a little noise to get his attention. Make sure the training sessions are not too long and turn them into something fun for the dog. If you notice the puppy or dog is getting bored or tired, stop. To teach your dog to come at your call, ask someone to hold him wile you walk away. Then call the dog by his name. Wait for the dog to come towards you alone, and as soon as he does, prize him. Take advantage of any opportunity to have him come at your call. If the only place you have to train your dog is in the park or in a public area, do the same but use a collar and long leash, however, make sure you don't pull at the leash. Once the dog learns to come at your call, you can let him off the leash completely.
