Dog Kennel RunSetting up a dog kennel or dog run can be a simple process or it can be complicated, much depends on the kennel you choose and on some other factors that have to do with your dog and where you plan to place the kennel. If you are going to be placing the dog kennel or run on uneven ground then you will need to prepare the ground before hand so that no part of the kennel is too high up off of the ground. | Also the dog run needs to be place on a surface that is adequate for your dog. If your dog is a long-hair breed then placing the kennel on a cement surface shouldn't cause it too many problems but if you have a short-hair breed then it will find things like rough cement or grass to be uncomfortable. Providing your dog with a comfortable living environment should be your number one priority that the one thing that you always keep foremost in your mind when planning out where to put the dog kennel. Some breeds are more susceptible to the elements, such as humidity, while other breeds are more hardy and don't need much coddling to keep fit and healthy. These special needs often have nothing to do with the size of your dog and some of the smallest dogs are in fact hardier and have fewer health related problems than some of the larger dogs. Keeping your dog kennel clean will go a long way in assuring your dog's good health. When you purchase your dog run it is a good idea to get one made with extended base feet (at least 1") as this facilitates keeping it clean and free of parasites. |
