Dog Housebreaking 101

Housebreaking a Dog

Proper dog housebreaking is essential as dogs instinctively will not soil the area in which they sleep. This is an inclination, which we can use to our advantage when teaching our pets to become housebroken. Unfortunately dog owners across the World give up on their dogs everyday and send them to shelters. This is largely due to the smelly and dirty problem of dogs doing their business in the house and the seemingly impossible task of reversing this undesirable habit.

When nature doesn't run its course: In spite of the natural disposition of dogs to not soil their sleeping areas. There are many factors that can have a detrimental affect on a young puppy. Maybe he was left in his litter box for long periods of time without it being thoroughly cleaned or he spent a lot of time inside a pet store where the puppies all have to go in their cages. However it happened if your puppy doesn't have his natural instinct of cleanliness intact it will be more problematic for you to teach him to become house broken. By following the advice we are about to give you, you will be able to teach him to go outside but it will require more work patience and dedication.

As soon as your new puppy arrives in your home he should be housebroken. This is the very first thing that must be taught. However many pet owners make mistakes in this regard which bring on later problems. If you allow your puppy to wander the house without proper supervision before he is fully house trained you are inviting disaster. Another bad habit people have is putting out newspaper for their puppy to go on. This teaches the puppy to go when he feels like it and so they do, whether there is paper or not. If your pup is using paper, do yourself a favor, get rid of it right away and begin teaching him the proper way. By following the advice herein you can learn what to do and what not to, then you can apply this knowledge to helping your dog become fully housebroken.
