Different Types of Dog Owners

The education, socialization and a balanced attitude are basic conditions to limit the risk of behavioral alterations. It is necessary to know ourselves well in order to know how the dog will be treated and to choose a breed that can adapt to the type of education that we want. Campbell, the author of a well known test to establish the character of the puppies, also defined a classification for the owners:

• The physical dominator: he wants his dog to obey at any price, and in order to achieve this he will resort to force. The best indicated breed for this purpose would be a hard one, if he knows how to control himself.
• The voice dominator: wants his dog to obey him when he yells. A fearful animal and good animal would not adjust to these characteristics because it would live in terror. On the other hand, we can get this person a stubborn animal, which is not easily impressed.
• The seducer: The owner gives in easily and tends to spoil the dog, giving it anything as long as there is an accomplishment. This owner needs a dog that is naturally obedient and does not look for forced relationships.
• The permissive: it is the owner that avoids any kind of discipline because he fears losing his dog's love. It is precise that this owner realizes what mistakes he is making because he is going straight to failure.
• The ambiguous: the dog doesn't understand anything: one day he can play with the shoes and the next day the situation is inverted.
• The paranoid: interprets his dog's behavior using human rules and gives the dog human emotions. In these cases problems are inevitable.
• The innocent: he knows little about dogs and follows the advice of whoever says they know about dogs. He needs help, even though nothing prevents him from learning to be a good owner.
• The logical: his behavior is ruled by common sense and therefore he is coherent.
• The untreatable: doesn't listen to any advice and blocks himself when he has problems. Never finds a solution.

When is it Best Time to get a Puppy

• The ideal time: 7 weeks: the most adequate moment is situated around the puppy's seventh week of life. At this age primary socialization has already been established because of the direct contact with the herd and the mother. The puppy can now identify the human being, since it has already had contact with the breeder. Now it does not suffer from separation, but during the eighth week a feeling of fear about any change appears. These considerations are valid for a puppy that will be destined exclusively as a companion and will live in a narrow relationship with the man. This does not happen with a hunting dog that will always live in a group.
• Critical period: from 8 to 10 weeks: if the dog has been raised in a stable environment and alike to the home that the new owner has, the puppy can be adopted between the second and third month. If there are kids in the family we can even take the puppy on the fourth month. On the other hand, if the environment is very poor (dog pound, intensive breeding center, etc.) we will have to adopt the dog between the sixth and seventh month.

The dog's Education: Once the puppy has been chosen we have to educate it. Its behavior is outlined since its first days.
The Importance of Education: The owner of the dog must know the basic principles of education in order to know how he can fail and how it will have an effect in the dog's behavior. The errors made when educating the dog can have serious repercussions in the adult dog's balance. Our purpose is not to censor the owners, but to question their lack of information. The correction of these alterations is very difficult; that is why it is important to prevent them. This is based in know what the owner must not do and how the puppy behaves. Normal Behavior
