single cat attacking other cats in household

Cats are sometimes aggressive towards other cats, dogs or humans. An agression behavior often is based on the cat VS master treatment and relationship.

single cat attacking other cats in household

Hi,
I have two friends with a similar problem in both households. They both have female cats who are relatively new on the scene (6 months to a year) and chase after the other cats until she catches them and attacks them. It is stressful for both households and one husband is actually in favor of giving the cat back to the shelter. One friend has used "time outs", Feliway diffusers, sprays, the works.
My question is, what do you think the root of this problem could be?
And what could be helpful to these ladies in terms of a solution?
Thanx for any insite!

The only thing that helped our cats tolerate each other was uniting in their hatred of the dogs. And they still fight once or twice a week when it's close to feeding time. I'm just glad Senna's declawed, Diamonds gets her butt kicked as is, I can only imagine what he'd do to her with claws.

When you sense a fight coming up; like when they start chasing each other try distracting her by giving her a treat. This is not meant to be used as a bribe from doing something wrong, mostly as a distraction. You can also try giving a toy or treat to the cat being chased, that way the troublesome female will stop running after it and try to be included in what ever is happening.

i had two cats and one died a few days later i got a kitten he was a male the other a spayed female...the female tried to 2 mother the kitten and the kitten sort of aloud it...in a few weeks the kitten got a bit biggar and started to play fight with the older cat just attacking her tail and not hurting her....now about 4 or 5 months later the kitten is much bigger and is still attacking the older female and it is hurting her...i think the female is afraid to hurt the little kitten because she never deffends her self but is meowing and it sounds like a painful meow...any suggestions?

If she was getting hurt, trust me, she would smack the snot out of him! And she would run from him.. Sounds like she is teaching him!! Cats have a very wide range of vocal sounds and she is telling him how to behave... I would sit back and really watch....... She is probably laying there and lashing her tail and yelling and that is teaching. I would not worry at all Just remember, she is top cat and gets everything first..... :D
