is there a way to become immune to cat allergies?

i've wanted a cat ever since i was a little girl, and i'd really like to get one.
however, a few years ago, i found that after petting cats, i would become itchy all over my body and my face would itch and swell if i touched my face after touching the cat. and sometimes, like if i go to the house of a friend who has a cat, i'll start sneezing and my eyes will water.

i thought that maybe if i got a kitten, i could get used to being around its fur as it grew...could that work?

what can i do?

There are things that can help.......there are some cats that are less prone to causing allergies.....Siamese are supposed to be......Rex are as are Sphinx. It is also a good idea to see an allergist and get tested to see how severe the allergy is.....you can start desensitization shots......There is Allerpet-C. That is something that is wiped on the cat for a certain number of days and after that, just every so often. Google it and do some reading. Another method is wiping the cat down daily with distilled water for 30 days then after that, just weekly for the rest of the cat's life. Yes, sometimes people do become immune to the cat. You build up immunities on your own. You can't put the cat near your face which is hard and the cat should not sleep in your room. Another darn near impossible thing. Brushing the cat is very important and also if the cat will tolerate it, bathing helps....... If you decide to talk to an allergist, be sure you find one that understands loving pets!!
